Great Himalaya
A large part of the state is made up of high snow-clad mountain ranges. The highest mountain range among them is Nanda Devi (7816 m Chamoli). Apart from this, Kamet (7,756 m), Chaukhamba (7,138 m), Trishul (7,120 m (6,861 m) Bhagirathi (6,856 m) Bandarpoonch (6,315 m), (6.672 m) in Uttarkashi and Panchachuli (6,904 m) in Pithoragarh district are mountain peaks in the district. Thus, the average height of the Great Himalayas situated in the state is 6000 m. There are glaciers in this part. From which many rivers originate, these perennial streams have not only enriched the land of Uttaranchal but have also satisfied the thirst of India for centuries till date, and will continue to do so in future too. The glaciers of this region are Milam, Namik, Poting in Pithoragarh district, Pindari, Sundaradwar Kafni, Maiktoli etc. in Bageshwar district and Gangotri in Uttarkashi district. Dokrayani, Bandarpucha, Khatling in the district, Chorbari Bamak in Rudraprayag, Dunagiri in Chamoli, Satapath. There are many passes in this region, which contributed significantly to India-Tibet trade in ancient times. Among these, Lipulekh, Untaghura, Lampiyaghura, Ghatmila, Balcha Aa (Pithoragarh), Niti, Mana, Tujun-La (Madhila), Kingri, Bingri etc. (Chamoli), Mulli Thagala, Shringkanth etc. (Uttarkashi) Trail Pass (Bageshwar) are the prominent ones
